Taylorsville police arrested five juveniles after a gang-related stabbing

Taylorsville police arrested five juveniles after a gang-related stabbing that left a 20-year-old man in critical condition early Sunday. The victim was stabbed in the neck about 12:30 a.m. during a fight in the 4700 South block of 3600 West, said Taylorsville Police Detective Shannon Bennett. The five juveniles, one girl and four boys, allegedly attacked the man because he and a fellow gang member assaulted one of them, also gang members, earlier in the day, Bennett said. Alcohol was involved on both sides, he said. Several people witnessed the fight, saw the suspects run away, and called police. The 20-year-old was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, though the wounds are not considered life-threatening. The five juveniles were arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide and booked into juvenile detention. The girl was also booked on suspicion of obstruction of justice. Police are investigating what started the first assault, but haven't been able to learn the victim's side because of his condition. His name was not released.
